Something to Ponder

I shiver when I think of all the roads my car could have broken down. Not knowing when or if someone would drive by to help me. Luckly, it always happened in town at a reasonable distance from a public phone or establisment with a phone, but a cell phone would still have saved me a lot of trouble.

I do miss that phone that hung on the kitchen wall.....
Do you mean the kind with a handle that you had to crank to get the operator to place your call?

Ok, what I meant to say was that I feel like I'm chained to this device constantly. I feel like it was a much more simple time back then. I used to remember phone numbers before I had a cell phone, now I'm lucky if I can remember my number and my kid's numbers I depend on my devices way too much.

A lot of the plots in old TV series wouldn't make sense today because the suspense relied on people being unreachable. On people hurrying to answer the phone and picking it right after the (unidentifiable) caller gave up.

People are not free if they have to stay home by the phone waiting for that all important call.
If they have to spend hours fearing the worst because they can't contact someone who didn't arrive when expected.
If you can't place a desperate call because that someone you're counting on for help isn't home.

Except for the dime we had to keep in our pockets for the pay phone. *chuckles
