I could NOT agree more with your sentiments!!!!!!!

A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing. George Bernard Shaw

We don't know really what's in peoples minds. The gunman had knowledge of historic battles. I see on TV that Pell's conviction has demoralized many about their own religion. He's done more to hurt his religion than others on different sides could ever do. Still this is an opportunity for us Atheists to come together and present an alternate "thing" to believe in. Us Atheists are at the forefront of science. We prefer the term creator as the word God has many problems. The creator does not imply a purposeful act of creation. The creator can be anything that creates. We cannot ignore the creator as we are evidence of being created !

Christchurch presents a picture of bucolic harmony with it's lovely stone buildings. It's tragic and disheartening to think of such hate-fueled carnage in such a peaceful setting. Today we are all New Zealanders in our grief.

We are all sadly linked by hostile or violent actions by groups that think their identity is being taken away or threatened by other groups that are "different." It's plain and simple fear mongering. Somehow this vicious political tide has to be reversed by sensible people of good will conquering the destructive effort to scapegoat "outsiders" or "others" for problems that are the inevitable result of social or environmental change. We need to find ways to form larger, more-inclusive groupings that work together for the common good.

If we can't banish ignorance, we need at least to neuter it.

As I remember it was the Muslims taking the Slavs as slaves in the ninth century. He said he became opposed to them when he visited Europe. You know about the Moors in Spain of course from History in school. Like the bloodied history of your own country. Now you welcome other invaders to stolen lands.

No Sweety- the muslim men, women and children praying in the mosqe were not to blame- the murdering scumbag who killed them was to blame ... And you are being dissingenuos suggesting that I blamed innocent women and children SHAME The points I make are the WAR environment created by worldwide muslims on Jihad and the silent majority that condones this. When you declare WAR on your neighbors don't be surprised when somebody burns your house down too!!! My other point is that next week when jews or christians are slaughtered by muslims there will be NO OUTRAGE from the world community like there was this week....

Arero and Ms Noveau ... You both make very excellant points and even though we disagree on some things we do agree on more than you think ... Yes I accept your apology Arero THANK YOU... EVILdoers will surface and continue do bad things to the innocent. Here in the USA we don't trust the government to have all the guns and as a final failsafe against tyranny WE ARE ARMED ... If someone in that mosque had a gun to fight back perhaps only 9 people would have been murdered instead of 49 PLUS the scumbag may not have even perpetrated this crime IF he thought someone might be able to shoot back. So this is our major disagreement WE see things differently- otherwise WE are all sympathetic to these poor victims no matter their race or religion or political views

I didn't know if you were talking calculus or telescopes. I know a guy who built his own Newtonian. He uses stepper motors and a computer program to position it. Some get hooked on trig ratio calculus. (Tried it) Others are fixated by a single pixel on a screen that might help explain why galaxies separate into radial arms. Religion like you say is too fixed for some peoples minds. If I can be callous i would call religion stupid. So that's the advantage of education. To learn not to be stupid!

For a moment I wondered why an Australian felt that he had to go to New Zealand to use automatic weapons to slaughter people he hated. Then I remembered that Australia had enacted sensible gun control laws.

It's just about time for gun worshippers in the US to get their heads out of their collective asses and stop mindlessly following the NRA and its' masters, the gun manufacturers. It's the same story no matter what the issue. You want to solve the crime, follow the money. The kids at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida didn't have any trouble figuring it out. Only the adults seem to think improperly trained small-town police officers blazing away at will, or worse, armed school teachers, are somehow the answer. We armed hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese peasants only to have them stolen by the Viet Cong... these noble, poorly-trained militiamen proved to be nothing more than gun bearers for the VC.

Give me a fuckin' break.

I have also thought for some years how odd theories about mass and gravity are. I guess we use it as a convenient approximation. Considering space time warpage my feet must be in a different time than my head. Black holes are hard not to love. For some of us I mean. Of course when you're combining many variables or three or more dimensions calculus gets a bit tricky. I told a teacher once how limited the equilateral triangle is. But then he explained to me that dimentionally it was superior. You can demonstrate this in a transdimentional way by using a sphere. You get a plane of incidental enlargement that can in theory anyway consume the whole universe and present multi-dimensional vectoring that is in essence a regrouping of the electromagnetic spectrum into a pathway to other dimensions. A reversal of the order of magnitude to put it simply ! So Newton was on the right path but didn't realize it.

Sweetheart, that was the best answer to the gun nuts' argument I've ever seen. Thank you.
