How To Write a Friendly or Personal Letter

People always complain about the letters written and I one of them..SO...here is a HOW-TO on writing a personal letter which is different than writing one for business.
I hope the info helps!

Writing a Friendly or Personal Letter-
A friendly or personal letter has 5 main parts.

1. HEADING: Includes the address and the date. In some cases, it is OK to just write the date.
2.GREETING: The greeting usually starts with 'Dear' and is followed the person's name and then a comma.
3.BODY: After skipping a line, you begin the body of your letter which is the main text of your letter. Indent for each new paragraph.
4.CLOSING: The closing includes a short capitalized expression such as 'Sincerely' or 'Love' and is followed by a comma. Skip a line after the body before writing your closing.
5.SIGNATURE: You sign your name beginning directly below the closing.

Sometimes you may add a POSTSCRIPT at the end of your letter. You write P.S., add a note and then end it with your initials.

What kind of things might you write in your friendly letter?

Tell your friend about something fun you recently did.
Congratulate your friend on a job well done for a recent accomplishment.
Ask you friend some questions. (What is your favorite color? Do you have any pets? Do you sports? etc.)
Share about a place you visited.
Ask for advice.
Tell about a book you've just read that you think your friend would also enjoy.

Remember to always use your best handwriting so your friend can read your letter. Use proper punctuation, spelling and grammar. Follow the 'Golden Rule' of letter writing: Write only the types of things that you would like to receive in a letter.

All very interesting. Draw back is that some of it would not apply to email. Topic line or heading is included. The date is already included. I like to skip a line between heading and body. People fail to correctly divide paragraphs when writing. Many paragraphs include multiple topics that are not associated. Closing is good but should reflect how close you are to the receiver. Signature: How do you enclose a signature when corresponding in email? My penmanship never excelled. It is much like a Physicians in that it is unreadable. I like the way you suggested topics to talk about. Mail that I receive often just says Hi. What can you do with a Hi? Is it worth responding to? Could you just send back a Hi? This would be more helpful if it delved into how to correspond in email. If it is intended for someone who you wish to open a conversation, how would you start the conversation? Would it be Hi? Some email start with "I read your profile" Then the writer launches in with what they want without acknowledging that it was not presented in your profile? I am especially touched by those that then end with contact me at an email address that is not part of the site from which you were contacted.

Your post is very good advice for people actually writing on paper and sending it by mail. What would you offer for those of us stuck in email?

The blackest lie is a partial truth that leads you to the wrong conclusion.

I do not see how this doesnt apply to writing a letter online just leave out the heading. And I dont now why people cant google *how to write a letter* and use the examples. Im old school I guess.I have forgotten a lot of things but I try.And honestly IMO if someone just tries it goes a wicked long way. Maybe the following will help people out.
