Good things come to those who wait...

Patience. What is it? Do you have it? It is something that you are born with or something that you develop? They say that patience is a virtue. But how do you morally quantify an abstract? What might be patient for you, might be impetuous for me. There are a lot of thoughts, writings, prose on the subject; just check the internet. Patience is a topic that has been explored and expounded upon for ages. Actual Ages.

I asked myself yesterday if I have patience. My initial response was "no." I am, after all, a babygirl . But immediately upon answering I was taken back I mean, I have had a life. And a pretty messed up one at that. And I have not killed a bitch. Not one single bitch have I killed. I think that shows a significant amount of forbearance. Also, thanks my life experience and being a curious person who loves learn new things, and a natural born watcher of people, I have a fairly extensive knowledge of ways mess up a bitch's life. And although I have been tempted, I have resisted the temptation. And with mediation and prayerful guidance have strove live my life by the motto "Make people's lives better."

My Mother always said "Don't pray for patience, because God will send you trials to teach it to you." So if you shouldn't pray for patience, what should you do? I think that goes back to the question "what is patience?" Is it a moral abstract? Or is it a skill, a mental muscle that needs to be trained, strengthened, stretched? How would you know if you had patience if you were never challenged or made to wait?

I have waited. Nods, Nods, Nods. I have waited, sometime patiently, sometimes not so much. Laughs. But I have waited. I have trusted. I have endured. I have overcome. I have resisted revenge. I have endured despondence and malaise. And at the end of the day, I have had faith. So despite my knee jerk reaction, I think the right answer is yes. Yes I do have patience. And I came by it the hard way.

I think we first learn to have at least some patience when we are children, if we have parents willing to teach it (mostly unconsciously). Meaning they don't give in to a child's whining, screaming, crying, tantrums, and so forth. Now days, I think may parents just don't want the confrontations with children and give in too soon. Sometimes called spoiling the child. We used to hear it years ago, but not so much today: "Spare the rod, spoil the child"

I have learned patience over the years. Although I can be impetuous when the need arises. It is a feeling you develop over time.

Patience. You might learn it. You might already have it. Patience is a subjective trait. How does one measure it? I believe you must measure for yourself. It is a relative thing.

I've always believed that having patience is one of my worst and best qualities. I mean you can't have patience unless you go through something that gives it to you. In the end, I always hope it something worth waiting for.
