As sad as it probably is, I like most, do most of my giving as the holiday season comes around. That it falls in line with the colder weather setting in makes sense, buuuuuuut I know that its a year round need for all shelters and half way houses, hospitals and food pantrys. So many animal, elderly and childrens organizations rely on outside help as well.

I am grateful to be able to gift a bit extra of what I have in plenty and am even more thankful that I dont have to look far to do so. Church, work, the library, even some local city groups all have food drives and gift trees to choose from.

My canned goods have been turned in and tomorrow I go shopping for the angel I picked off the giving tree.

Our giving tree this year is for a children's home for kids who've been through the legal system and are being help by the county for various reasons criminal, civil and otherwise. All preteen or under.

I work in a building of about 200 folks. There were 50 angels put on the tree, knowing that not all could or would want to help. As of now, 2 weeks in to the 3 week drive, there are still 10 golden angels left unclaimed. All boys.

I've always pick the little boys for some reason. I don't know if its because I've got a son and a little brother, because Ive always had a soft spot for them over little girls, if its because its always the boys who are left for last on the trees or just because they are so much easier to accommodate with simpler wants and shorter easier to fill list. Video game requests not included, lol.

I pick like a girl. If I am drawn to one particular paper angel I see if I like the name. If I like the name or age, I look at the list. I found my perfect angle immediately this year....1st try.

He wants K'nex and drawing paper and a plushy animal. A kid after my own heart. I might have to throw a DNA test in his gift bag just to make sure he isn't actually mine.

I have my list, my bank card and I'm ready to hit the store running, no really, running, I hate to shop, I run in...find it...run out then recuperate by driving not running to Red lobster or DiBellas, but since those last little angels were staring at me as I left work tonight........I snuck a peek at 2 of those forgotten and unclaimed little angel babies that are still sitting there waiting for someone to pick them off that not yet bare tree and I will have a second list on my mind and in my shopping cart.

Because I want to, because I can and because I am grateful.

We are constituted so that simple acts of kindness, such as giving to charity or expressing gratitude, have a positive effect on our long-term moods.

This is awesome! We gonna give - Right?

Always .... and year round too. I don't equate it with 'giving', I equate it with 'receiving'.

Uh .... Say what?

It's the feeling I receive from helping others, be they people or animals. Is there any better feeling than being able to help a person or critter in need?

You're right. It feels good.

It feels excellent. I encourage everyone to help others out when they can.

And that doesn't mean just monetarily either.

No, lending a helping hand can take many forms.....

I always do the angel tree and, like you, little boys are my favorite. This year though we had a tree for elderly folks in the local senior living facility. You do know I have an angel this year and he needs slippers.

This reminded me of what I need to do for the Holidays. I got to get my ass in gear. Focused too much on my self the past few weeks. Some grocery shopping today is in order to beat the rush for next's week cooking extravaganza. Clear out my pantry on things i don't need/eat anymore. Give that to the charity groups. Along with a donation.

You crack me up.

It is such a good thing to be grateful for what you have and to have enough to share so it's a great thing to realize it and do so no matter what kind of enough you have to share.

I finished my holiday grocery run today too. It'll be a zoo all next week and I just cant handle getting dislocated knees and ankle wounds by crazy shopping cart rally drivers.

Stocking the winter pantry really is a great time to clean out those unused goodies to share. Im sure any and all donations you make are appreciated.

lol, I think you may be right about the predisposition toward the love of lunacy but that wouldn't be something to be grateful for would it? Hmmmm On the other hand.....

Oooooooo much to early for Christmas stuff for me though I do know a few who flip their Christmas switch on turkey day, but i just....cant. Id have to head to a bunker too cuz Id be a grinch before the 2nd week of December instead of slowly building up and oozing holiday joy in anticipation.

Can good should be kept current and shared as needed. Check your shelves and pressure seals, lest Santa not put you on the NICE list this year
