Honestly i think the man is trying to say...
Stay humble...

If he started off as a newbie at the temple his job would have been to gather wood,sweep,fetch water..basically hard labor..
But as he rose up the ranks the burden is lifted. Others would take over this labor.
Finally he rose to the rank of master
