A Crisis is a Terrible Thing to Waste

Feeling Depressed? Cheer u p! Help is the way.

Do you wonder if the madness will never end?
Do you wish people who know what they're doing were in charge?
Have you noticed that China has been a country for five thousand years and they had their best years since Donald Trump has been president of the US.

Do you wonder why Donald Trump is now actually behaving more erratically than he ever has?

If so, that glimmer of light you see below may not be a freight train barreling toward you. It may be morning, instead of mourning.

Take a careful look at some real data, instead of loony tunes:

No wonder Trump is more unhinged than ever.

That is real data, not fantasy. Remember data? We used to rely on it. Now all we hear is yelling.

But data can change, just like the models for the virus change. We can change the data. If we stay home on election day without casting a -in vote, we can change that data into four more years of insanity. It's on us.

Ask yourself... How much more of this can I take?
If the answer is... No more! then don't rely on this data not changing. Remember the rage you felt in November of 2018 and seize a future of hope and promise.

A crisis is a terrible thing waste. We could use this crisis save this planet and the air that is now so clean by helping strengthen renewable energy sources instead of bailing out Oil companies. We could use it protect a woman's right choose by voting out Senators who stack the courts with anti-choice judges. We could use it to protect the right to bear arms without flooding the country with weapons that are only useful to kill people in vast numbers. We could use it to vote for a government that has the vision and the expertise to foresee the next crisis and plan for it instead of wasting our tax dollars handing out bailouts to corporations that don't need bailing out.

It's us. I'll have a clear conscience because I vote. I voted in Virginia in November 2018 and we tossed the do-nothing Republicans out of every State office and both houses of the legislature.

This is pure drivel. A simple-minded catch-phrase cut and paste job. Talk about sheeple.

The issue is competence vs. corruption and the grade is F.

I'm all in for Joe! I haven't been much of a politic donor in previous elections but I've been doing my part this time. Living in a solidly blue state, I want to put my money where my mouth is, because it is the votes of others that will make a difference.
Andrew Yang was right. More widely distributed disposable income could increase the number of political donors. I haven't donated all that much in the past, but this is a national emergency. If we're not all in for Joe we're inviting four more years of disaster.

I got your note, but Alt. helpfully blocked out the last five lines after "romantic movies" with their invitation for me to become at paying member (like that's gonna happen ). I'll be happy to respond if you can text me the full quiz.

I agree that JB is not the perfect choice... but his heart is in the right place. We've made imperfect choices before. (Considering that we once allied with Joe Stalin to beat Adolf Hitler, this choice looks a lot easier. ) If we can give him the Senate too we can get a lot done.

Take good care of yourself, sweetheart... and not just because we need your vote.

I'm going to drink a glass of my favourite wine to toast the hope of sanity prevailing on that side of the Atlantic after recent madness.
Yes, there is that. And who would be fools enough to hire these people? How sad indeed.

Cheers, mate!

Another result of this pandemic might be the necessary implementation of mail-in voting for all states. Standing in long lines outside polling addresses is undoable in this climate. This makes voter suppression more difficult and makes your 2018 VA voter results a more viable blueprint.

We need a resounding victory over tRUMPism. Something akin to Nixon's victory over Mcgovern in 1972. Nixon took 49 states with the electoral college moot at 520 to 17. Not that I voted Nixon but hard not to marvel at such a crushing result.
That would send tRUMP and friends packing with tails between their legs!

Your thoughts are always expressed clearly and concisely.
I notice you have a tendency to propose fantasy solutions to real problems. As I recall from my junior high school civics class, Article 1 of the Constitution gives the States the sole power to regulate federal elections. A voting change of that magnitude would require a Constitutional amendment. There have been only four amendments to the Constitution regarding voting rights since the Republic was founded precisely because the process is so cumbersome.

Wasn't it Wisconsin where voters stood in line to vote while the virus was raging? Some people will actually defy death to vote.

I understand your point about an overwhelming victory giving the winner a mandate for major changes. Landslide victories, however, take a hell of a lot of organization. Nixon was a master at organizing and campaigning. Biden is neither. His strength is identification with the common man. This election will be won by motivation... voter motivation... on both sides. It's going to be tough and brutal. It will be won in the swing states. The candidate whose voters in those states are most motivated will win. I'm hoping that what they've experienced in the past three years, the fate of the planet and the future of our Republic will be enough to motivate them.

Unfortunately, hope is not a strategy.

Thanks M. I miss you too. Despite numerous wishes the the contrary, I'm not dead yet.

I figure if data works on a viral plague, why not use it to fight a plague of crazy?

The chaos president is doing everything he can to create a second wave, including turning the White House into a viral hot spot. I don't see how that can do anything but hurt him, but then I don't profess to be a stable genius.

I am well, thanks. Hope you are too.

Welcome to the club. What do you think of Gretchen Whitmer as a running mate for Biden, now that he's decided that he needs a female running mate to shore up the women's vote? Can she really help him in the industrial midwest or is she tainted by the Constitution-is-a-suicide-pact crowd like everybody else who's tried to be rational in this crisis? ( would have gone with Andrew Yang, myself. I think Biden needs shoring up on the youth-vote front more than on the suburban-women front.)

Love your analytical mind. You collate and process the data like an IBM System/36 and then re-inset the human element. "How much of this can we take?" I cannot tolerate watching Trump on television. When he was elected and sworn in, I said "okay" let's see what he can and will do. We found out in a short amount of time. He went to the United Nations and in direct terms told North Korea that he was going to wipe them off the face of the earth (unless they immorally stop missile tests landing near Hawaii.)

Those were frightening words. "wipe them off the face of the earth" My reaction was: this guy is nuts, insane and very dangerous. I have not changed my mind since. Kim and his bully boys deserve to be eliminated but there are far more diplomatic ways of saying it and not starting WWIII.

Diplomacy is not in Trumps bag of dirty tricks.
